SANFORD, Maine – The New England Collegiate Baseball League released its 2023 schedule on Monday. The Mainers 44-game regular season runs from Thursday, June 8 to Saturday, July 29.

That June 8 contest marks the first time since 2019 that Sanford opens the season on the road with the Mainers traveling to Alumni Field to face the Keene Swamp Bats. The following night the Mainers open their 22-game home schedule with a matchup against the Upper Valley Nighthawks at Goodall Park.

Sanford, Keene, and Upper Valley are three of four teams in the North Division, one of three NECBL divisions following last year's realignment. The fourth team, the Vermont Mountaineers, eliminated the Mainers in the semifinals of the playoffs last season. Sanford and Vermont will see one another seven times over the course of the season with the first meeting being on Sunday, June 18.

The Mainers schedule also includes a doubleheader with the Danbury Westerners set for June 17 at home, as well as two matchups against the reigning champion Martha’s Vineyard Sharks. The Mainers will be on the road for their first matchup against the Sharks on June 24.

The Mainers visit the venue of the 2023 NECBL All Star Game, presented by Metro Credit Union, on Tuesday, June 27 when they play the North Shore Navigators. Less than one month later, on Sunday, July 23, the best of the NECBL will be on display at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.

The season comes full circle for the Mainers when they host Keene on Saturday, July 29 to finish off regular season play. That will be the eighth and final regular season meeting between those two. Postseason play begins two days later on Monday, July 31 with the Wild Card games.

The Mainers concluded the 2022 season with a 22-22 record. Head Coach Nic Lops is set to return for his third year as the Mainers skipper, fresh off receiving the league’s Joel Cooney Manager of the Year award last season.
